Commentary
This is the Gumonji Daishi Statue. "Gumonji" refers to the "Gumonji-ho," a form of spiritual training where one chants the mantra of Akasagarbha one million times, and it is said by achieving this, one will be able to immediately gain understanding of and attain memorization of various scriptures. This statue depicts Kobo Daishi performing the Gumonji-ho, and it is said that it offers visitors with blessings related to academic achievement.
