Commentary
This is the Imperial Envoy Gate; it is a registered tangible cultural property. It was built in 1936 as a supporting project to mark the 1100th anniversary of the death of Kobo Daishi (Kukai). Engraved on the twin-door gate is the imperial chrysanthemum crest of the Imperial Household.
