Commentary
This is the Daishido (Hall for Kobo Daishi). This edifice is used for the veneration of Kobo Daishi, and it was established adjacent to the Main Hall. After being burned down in 1922 due to fire, the current building was rebuilt in 1929. For the statue of Kobo Daishi that is stored in the hall, its body and belongings have been carved out of granite using a "marubori" technique (statue carved in the round) and painted, and the stone statue has been adorned with vestments and a ritual stole.
