Place for Stepping on Sand from the Shikoku Henro Pilgrimage Sacred Places

Commentary

Stepping on sand is one of the ways of pilgrimage where people step on the sand and pray at a place in which the sand and principal objects of worship from the 88 Sacred Places of the Shikoku Henro Pilgrimage have been placed. This way is acknowledged to be as effective as the actual Shikoku Henro Pilgrimage to gain merit. The place with the collected sand was originally opened in the Seto Ohashi Memorial Park to commemorate the opening of the Seto Ohashi Bridge and later was transferred to Konzou-ji Temple in 1989.
