Commentary
Mizuko is a child who was not able to be born or passed away shortly after birth. Ksitigarbha (a bodhisattva who looks over children, travelers and the underworld) saves their souls. This statue was erected in front of the Mikage Pond as a memorial project of the 1150th anniversary of the death of Kobo Daishi (Kukai) in 1984.
