Commentary
This is the Taiko Wall; it is a registered tangible cultural property. It stretches for 61 metres, from the Imperial Envoy Gate through the Guard House in the north to the side entrance in the south. This roofed mud-wall adopts the details that suggest a high prestige of the temple, such as five horizontal white lines and a mixture of concave and convex roof tiles (honkawarabuki). The Taiko Wall was built in 1936 along with the Imperial Envoy Gate.
