Commentary
This is the Deva Gate; it is a registered tangible cultural property. It is the front gate of the Tanjo-in Birthplace Complex. Lined up on the east side of the gate are statues of Deva gods, while enshrined on the west side is a pair of large Japanese sandals known as ōzōri. The current gate was rebuilt in 1889, but the statues of Deva gods were made in 1370 during the period of the Northern and Southern Dynasties. The stone bridge in front of the Deva Gate could previously only be crossed on the 20th of each month, so it is called the Hatsuka (20th day) Bridge.
