Commentary

This is a shrine built in 1935 with its main building, hall of worship, water ablution pavilion and "torii" gateway still remaining today; it is a national registered tangible cultural property. Nogi Maresuke, the first general of the 11th Infantry Brigade, and his wife, Shizuko, are enshrined as deities. Unlike the architecture of conventional shrines, the design of this shrine has modest decoration with simple straight-lines across the whole building; it seems to have been modern at that time.
