Commentary

This is the distant place of worship for Mt. Shashingatake. "Mt. Shashingatake" refers to a sacred place atop Mt. Gahaishi where Kobo Daishi underwent spiritual training. While this location is also the "inner shrine" of Shusshaka-ji Temple, the path to reach it is treacherous, and for individuals for which the journey is too difficult, it is said that they can receive the same blessings as they would by worshipping at the inner shrine by visiting this distant place of worship and by reciting a "gohogo" (sutra) in worshipful prayer.
